The Procurement Services office has reached Silver status in the Sustainable Workplace Certification Program. 65% of the staff have completed the Planet Blue Ambassador training. New employees receive sustainability educations material in their on-boarding process. The group is recycling more items and purchasing recycled content paper.
The Library Facilities at Duderstadt Ctr has reached Silver status in the Sustainable Workplace Program by eliminating space heaters, and shutting off items that don’t need to run such as the escalators when the building has low occupancy and the boiler system on a seasonal basis. Annually the chairs are evaluated and parts are ordered to rebuild and repair rather than buy new.
Michigan Union Ticket Office achieved Silver ranking by turning off computer equipment and reducing paper usage. They earned bonus points by eliminating the printing of all ticket receipts, requiring them only when a customer signature is necessary. This significantly reduced the ticket stock requirements. They further reduced waste by reusing paper that was miss-printed as scrap paper.
Student Life: Greek Life is at the Silver level certification for Sustainable Workplace. The office contacts the building facility management area when there are issues with thermostats. Otherwise they dress appropriately. They have eliminated single use bottled water and implement ways to reduce their paper usage.
The Financial Analysis/Treasurer’s Office achieved Silver status in the Sustainable Workplace Program by utilizing using google collaboration tools to limit paper, eliminating paper as part of the payment receipt process as well as other processes that used to require paper. The group uses the natural light available at WOTO and leave the lights out on sunny days.
Property Disposition is at Silver status in the Sustainable Workplace Program. The team turns off lights and equipment in the office and in the warehouse when not occupied, printers are set to double sided printing, and staff use reusable plates and silverware instead of disposable.
Athletic Medicine became certified as a Silver level sustainable office by posting reminders to shut off lights and establishing settings on equipment to power down when not in use. Recycling bins and signage were improved, and areas for collecting special materials were created and promoted. Additionally, a number of steps have been taken to engage staff and increase awareness of sustainability issues, including the tracking of paper use, formation of a Green Team, and incorporating sustainability communications into ongoing staff training.
The School of Social Work became certified as a Sustainable Workplace by phasing out the use of disposable kitchenware and posting reminders to power down lights and equipment when not in use. These actions were built upon existing practices to reduce energy use such as setting sleep mode on machines and removing unnecessary printers. Additionally, the School has committed to reducing paper use as demonstrated by their plans for a paper-free conference
Internal Medicine became certified as a Sustainable Workplace by setting computers to default to energy saving settings and printers to default to duplex printing. Additionally the team has committed to avoiding purchasing disposable water bottles and one-use kitchenware.
LSA Sociology earned their Silver certificate by having all computers set at energy saving settings, printers set to duplex as the default, and recycling areas well marked. Special collection areas are established for source separate recycling, and actions are taken to reduce paper use within the office.
