Bert’s received Platinum status by composting coffee grounds and highlighting sustainable food choices such as Organic Teas. Reusable water bottles are offered at the same price as a single use water bottle and coffee is discounted when you bring your own mug. More than 50% of the staff have become Planet Blue Ambassadors and sustainability continues to be discussed in staff meetings.
Bursley's Blue Apple has achieved Platinum status as a Sustainable Workplace. The department reduced energy by working with their facility manager and shielding the windows to prevent heat loss and adjusting the thermostat. Composting began fall of 2015, the unit formed a green team and now includes sustainability in new hire training.
Michigan League Ugo's has attained Platinum certification. They reduced their paper usage by evaluating their paper usage and reduced paper usage by 2/3. Coffee grounds and napkins will be composted and staff will use reusable silverware and cups instead of disposables. Ugo's offers a great discount on coffee when you bring your own mug!
Victors at the Hill has received Platinum Level in the Sustainable Workplace program. The team reached this level by composting coffee grounds and other food items and turning off computers and monitors at the end of the work day. In addition, over 50% of the staff are Planet Blue Ambassadors.
Beanster's Cafe at Michigan League has upgraded to Platinum certification after receiving a sustainability presentation, instituting composting of the coffee grounds and other pre and post consumer food items and obtaining silverware and cups to be used by staff instead of disposables. Beanster's offers a great discount on coffee when you bring your own mug!
Beanster's Cafe at Pierpont has upgraded from Silver to Platinum certification by instituting composting of the coffee grounds and other pre and post consumer food items and obtaining silverware and cups to be used by staff instead of disposables. New staff will be introduced to sustainability at orientation and at ongoing staff meetings. Beanster's offers a great discount on coffee when you bring your own mug!
Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs has earned Platinum level Sustainable Workplace Certification. The department supports students that previously produced a lot of paper flyers. They will be promoting digital signage in locations that support digital. They have committed to using the water refill station in the hallway near their office and will eliminate the water jugs previously used in their office. The staff use reusable mugs rather than disposable and most of the staff have taken the Planet Blue Ambassador training.
The Pierpont Commons Ugo's attained the highest level of Platinum certifications. The are fully powering down equipment at the end of the day, expanding their signage to identify local products, adding composting of the coffee grounds and providing a bin for customers to add their stir sticks and napkins to the composting. They have switched to compostable plates and are limiting the paper plating at their pizza station to reduce waste.
East Quad has always had a reputation as a leader in sustainability. With Chef Buzz working up scrumptious meals made from local and sustainability products, the dining hall has a stellar reputation. The students that choose East Quad are generally our most sustainability minded. With their urging, East has become the first dining hall to have post consumer composting, have been piloting Meatless Monday's and lay claim to the lions share of U-M's local meat purchases in 2014-15.
The Markley dining hall is Platinum certified as a sustainable workplace. 60% of the staff are Planet Blue ambassadors and the hall has created a green team to continue to identify sustainability opportunities. Pre-consumer composting is in place with plans to incorporate post consumer composting. All new staff will be trained on sustainability as part of their on-boarding. Computers are all set to the most energy efficient sleep settings and reminders are posted on computers to turn them off at night.
