Fleming Shared Services

4/19/2016

Fleming Shared Services received Platinum status by introducing new processes to reduce paper usage.   The group migrated to a large paper but only one page for reports that used to take multiple pages.  This reduced paper from 4-6 pages to one.  They also reduced paper requests from the customer.  Requests are now sent via email with scanned item.  All members of the team are Planet Blue Ambassadors and look forward to doing a zero waste event this fall.

Office of the VP for Student Life: Student Research

The Office of the VP for Student Life: Student Research team has received Platinum level as a Sustainable Workplace.  This team has been involved in the Sustainable Culture Indicator Program (SCIP) which surveys staff, faculty, students and alumni regarding Sustainable behaviors.  Staff bring their own reusable dishware and most of the staff have completed the Planet Blue Ambassador training. 

SORC

3/10/2016

 SORC received Platinum status by eliminated a halogen lamp and insuring all desk lamps have CFL or LED bulbs.  Halogen requires more energy and can be a fire hazard.  Powering all Computer equipment off at night and when not in use. During breaks the microwave and mini fridge are unplugged.  SORC resells unclaimed Diag boards to be reused and they have automated their reservation system to make it more efficient and save paper.  Paper that is still required has been reduced to ½ the size.

Ginsberg Center

The Ginsberg Center attained Platinum status as a Sustainable Workplace. 100% of the staff are Planet Blue ambassadors and the training is included in the handbook for new employees. All printing is defaulted to duplex. Energy savings include the adjustment of power settings on computers, motion sensing power strips. Sustainability has been and will continue to be discussed on a monthly basis at staff meetings.

 

Lawyers Club Dining

The Lawyers Club Dining facility has attained Platinum status as a Sustainable Workplace. The group has transitioned to an online inventory system saving approximately 1700 pages per year. Other waste reduction includes emailing orders rather than printing, converting to quart style creamers from individual creamer and implementing pre and post consumer composting. The energy is reduced by turning off the light between meals and using the natural light. The student staff continue to bring energy and ideas to the team and the management encourages and implements many of those ideas.

Student Affairs Career Center

The Student Affairs Career Center became a Platinum certified sustainable workplace by removing disposable items from the staff kitchen, using rechargeable batteries and more than half of the staff are Planet Blue Ambassadors. Other key efforts included posting reminders for lights to be turned off when not in use, meeting with the building's Regional Energy Manager to evaluate thermostats, increasing recycled content of office paper, expanding recycling collection, and incorporating sustainability communications into staff orientation and regular office communications.

Office of the Dean of Students

The Office of the Dean of Students has attained Platinum ranking as a Sustainable Workplace. The group continues to make a concentrated effort to reduce paper usage by sending flyers as attachments and continuously evaluating their paper usage. More than 50% of the staff are Planet Blue Ambassadors and disposables are no longer used. Regular communication regarding sustainability is shared with staff.

Office of the President

9/30/2015

The Office of the President has been upgraded from a Silver to a Platinum Certified Sustainable Workplace. 100% of the staff are certified as Planet Blue Ambassadors.  To control energy usage the office has removed several printers.  The office continually modifies processes to reduce paper usage including the implementation of user boxes on the copier to save wasted paper.  The group controls waste by utilizing glassware rather than disposables, and utilizing the recycling programs for pens, Styrofoam. Batteries and electronic media.

Housing and Michigan Dining Administration

9/15/2015

Housing and Michigan Dining Administration earned their Platinum certification in their new West Quad home. The staff are powering down computers when not in use, and printing defaults double-sided to their multi-function device. The entire staff has attended presentations on sustainability and have been certified as Planet Blue Ambassadors. The staff of this department have encouraged all of the other Student Life units to become certified workplaces.  All Michigan Dining units are certified Platinum.

Michigan League Catering

8/18/2015

The Michigan League Catering team is certified as a Platinum Sustainable Workplace. The majority of staff are Planet Blue Ambassadors, the light switches all have reminders to turn off the lights, and sustainability is on the agenda at staff meetings. The department is composting pre-consumer and post-consumer food scraps and uses reusable kitchen items for staff use.
