Students in the field

University of Michigan students are engaged in a powerful learning journey – within and beyond the classroom – that spans disciplines and instills the knowledge and skills required to become future sustainability leaders. Through collaborations across schools, colleges, and operating units, we develop innovative curricula, integrate students in research, and leverage co-curricular programs for experiential learning opportunities – using U-M campuses and field sites as “living-learning laboratories.”

As part of their learning, U-M students can choose from more than 10 undergraduate degrees, a dozen master’s degrees, and 15 doctoral programs related to sustainability—as well as a wide variety of minors, concentrations, dual-major programs, and certificate options. (See links at left.) Across both undergraduate and graduate programs, students can select from hundreds of courses related to this important subject matter. And through hands-on, field-based courses, students are empowered to investigate real-life sustainability problems and to offer innovative ideas for how to resolve them.

Beyond the classroom, U-M offers myriad co-curricular sustainability opportunities in the areas of campus life, career development, and community service. As student interest in sustainability continues to grow, we are working diligently to expand and enhance these every day learning opportunitiesfor our students.

U-M students don’t just study sustainability; they live it. Please browse this website to learn more.
