On Wednesday, November 17, 2010, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Dana Building (Ford Commons), International Joint Commission (IJC) Co-Chair Lana Pollack will speak to the U-M community about the often contentious clash between science and politics in managing shared waters. As part of her presentation, she will also talk about the challenges of managing Great Lakes water between the U.S. and Canada.
In June 2010, President Barack Obama appointed the Honorable Lana Pollack to be co‐chair of the IJC, a U.S. and Canadian institution established by the Boundary Waters Treaty of 1909. Ms. Pollack is responsible for ensuring that any conflict over shared waters be dealt with in a cooperative manner.
This presentation is being sponsored by the Program in the Environment as part of its Visiting Speakers Series. Click here for a flier about the event.
