During the month of October 2012 the University of Michigan is participating in Food Day a nationwide celebration of healthy and sustainable food. Food Day seeks to bring together Americans from all walks of life—parents, teachers, and students; health professionals, community organizers, and local officials; chefs, school lunch providers, and eaters of all stripes—to push for healthy, affordable food produced in a sustainable, humane way.
The University of Michigan is hosting a number of events scheduled throughout the month of October in recognition of Food Day:
Farm Fresh Wednesdays: Oct. 3-24, Michigan Union U-go’s
Every Wednesday, through mid-October, the Michigan Union U-go’s and the University Club restaurant will be featuring fresh produce from a local farm. Produce will also be available at the Pierpont U-go’s on Wednesday, Oct. 24. For more information: Farm Fresh Wednesdays.
Harvest Festival: Oct. 4, 4 - 8 p.m., Matthaei Botanical Gardens
Good food, musical entertainment, and great company at the new Campus Farm. Transportation to and from the event will be provided from Rackham Auditorium every half hour starting at 3:30. Michigan Harvest Gathering is a one-of-a-kind emergency food program benefiting the food bank council of Michigan’s 9 member food banks (food collected locally stays locally - for us that is Food Gatherers).

University Hospital Food Day: Oct. 24, All U-M Hospitals
Stop by UH Cafeteria, Mott Getaway n Play Café or Nick's Cafe for breakfast (7-10 am) and try an MHealthy pumpkin muffin, cider & local coffee. For lunch and dinner, there will be small chef demos at each of the locations with a vegetarian featured entree food sample; purchase the featured entree at any of the locations and receive a small bag of local fruits & veggies. Patient meal option to include a Michigan Chicken Cherry salad. Food Day recipe cards will be available.
