In Detroit and other struggling restbelt cities, hardships have opened new frontiers in what constitutes sustainable development. A new undergraduate course called "Sustainable Neighborhoods: Experiential Learning and Active Engagement in Detroit" (co-sponsored by the Graham Sustainability Institute and the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning) is giving students an opportunity to examine this issue and opportunity.
