Kill-a-Watt at the University of Michigan is excited to announce the launch of their new website: www.killawattum.org.
Kill-A-Watt’s mission is to involve students in energy, environmental, and sustainability issues and start discussions on these topics while reducing energy use for its environmental and financial benefit. Kill-a-Watt hopes to convey the relevance of sustainability to all students regardless of their interest in environmental issues, as well as make energy use more visible to those on the U-M campus and unify the environmental movement at the university.
Kill-a-Watt at the University of Michigan is modeled after a successful program of the same name at the University of Central Florida. Founded in November 2010, Kill-a-Watt is a student organization that implements the Kill-A-Watt competition each fall semester in collaboration with University Housing and the Planet Blue Student Ambassadors Program. During the month long competition, beginning October 17, 2012, students compete on behalf of their residence hall to reduce energy use by at least 10% compared to the same month in previous years. The competition will start that day with a light-bulb exchange in each participating residence hall lobby. Students can exchange their personal incandescent light bulbs for energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulbs.
Kill-a-Watt also participates in events around campus and hosts speakers throughout the year. If you would like to get involved, contact us!
